2005 Revisions

ARTICLE I:  NAME

The name of this organization shall be the Indiana University Pediatric Dentistry Alumni Association, referred to herein as “the Association” or “this Association.”

ARTICLE II:  OBJECTIVES

Section I

The objectives of the Association shall be:

  1. To promote high standards of practice in the field of Pediatric Dentistry.

  2. To be informed of the latest developments, theories, techniques and research in Pediatric Dentistry.

  3. To provide an opportunity for fellowship and the development of fraternalism among members of the Association.

  4. To support the advanced education program in Pediatric Dentistry at Indiana University as well as other programs in which Indiana University Pediatric Dentistry alumni are involved.

  5. To promote research projects among members of this Association.

  6. To provide an opportunity for students in the advanced education program in Pediatric Dentistry at Indiana University to exchange ideas with students in advanced education programs in Pediatric Dentistry at other institutions.

  7. To encourage members of this Association to become Diplomates of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry.

ARTICLE III:  MEMBERSHIP

Section I

The membership of this Association shall consist of the following:
           

  1. Active Members – Any dentist who has satisfactorily completed the advanced education program in Pediatric Dentistry at Indiana University shall be eligible for active membership.  Student Members – Any dentist who is a student in the advanced education program in Pediatric Dentistry at Indiana University shall be eligible for student membership.

  2. Associate Members – All full-time Indiana University Pediatric Dentistry Faculty members shall be eligible for this category if they do not qualify for active membership.  All pediatric dentists who earned their D.D.S. at Indiana University School of Dentistry and completed an accredited advance education program in Pediatric Dentistry at another institution shall be eligible for associate membership.    

  3. Honorary Members – This category includes individuals who have contributed to the advancement of Pediatric Dentistry, or have rendered important service to the profession or to the Association and have been properly nominated and elected, as prescribed in Article 1, Section 3 of the By-Laws. Ralph E. McDonald lecturers, visiting scholars and professors shall be eligible for honorary membership.

  4. Life Members – Active and Associate members who have reached the age of sixty five (65) or are retired for other reasons are eligible for this category of membership.

ARTICLE IV:  OFFICERS AND EXECUTIVE COUNCIL

Section I

The officers of this Association shall be president, vice president and secretary-treasurer, who are active members and shall hold office for two (2) years or until their successors are duly elected and qualified.

Section II

The Executive Council shall consist of the officers, the immediate past president and three (3) directors. The President may appoint one (1) or more faculty member(s) in Pediatric Dentistry at Indiana University to the Executive Council, Ex-Officio, as desired to assist the Executive Council in conducting business.  The chief resident of the advanced education program in Pediatric Dentistry at Indiana University may serve as an ex-officio member of the executive council at the discretion of the chief resident’s program director.

Section III

At the first meeting, one (1) director shall be elected for a six (6)-year term, one (1) a four (4)-year term, and one (1) for a two (2)-year term.  At each subsequent election, one (1) director shall be elected for a six (6)-year term.

Section IV

An Executive Secretary shall be appointed by the Executive Council as provided for in Article VII, Section 1 of the By-Laws.

ARTICLE V:  COMMITTEES

Section I

The following shall be Standing Committees as prescribed in Article VIII of the By-Laws:

  • Programs

  • Membership

  • Nominations

Section II  

A  Local Arrangements Committee shall be appointed at the discretion of the Vice President as prescribed in Article VIII, Section 4 of the By-Laws.

Section III

The following shall be the Standing Committees to be appointed at the discretion of the President:
1. Research
2. Publication

Section IV

Special committees shall be appointed by the President as he/she deems necessary.

ARTICLE VI:  MEETINGS

Section I

Meetings shall be held biennially.

Section II

Registration and tuition fees shall be determined by the Executive Council and made payable to the Indiana University Pediatric Dentistry Alumni Association.

Section III

The Executive Council shall decide the dated and location of the meetings.

ARTICLE VII:  POWERS

Section I

The Association may provide active, associate, and honorary members with a certificate of membership in the Association. 

Section II

The Association, upon recommendation of the Executive Council and by a two-thirds (2/3) vote of the active and associate membership present at the meeting, may establish and administer a fund for scholarships and/or loans or awards for students in the advanced education program in Pediatric Dentistry.

Section III

Monies for scholarships, loans or awards in Pediatric Dentistry may be derived from the fund of annual contributions.

ARTICLE VIII:  AMENDMENTS TO THE CONSTITUTION

Section I

This constitution and accompanying By-laws may be amended by a two-thirds (2/3) vote of the active and associate members present at a regular meeting, provided the proposed amendment(s) has(have) been presented in writing to each member at least thirty (30) days prior to the meeting.  Amendments not presented thirty (30) days prior to the meeting require unanimous vote for passage.

ARTICLE IX:  RULES OF ORDER

Section I

Robert’s Rules of Order, Revised, shall be the parliamentary authority for all matters of procedure not specifically covered herein.
