School Alumni Associations
IU School of Social Work Alumni Association
The School of Social Work Alumni Association has several subcommittees that are responsible for planning and implementing programs, activities, and projects for alumni. Some of the activities include:
- Four board meetings held every year in the Dean's Office at the School.
- An annual meeting which elects new officers.
- Raising money for several scholarship funds has been an important endeavor of the alumni board. The Scholarship Committee has helped endow two scholarships to date.
- Numerous student events are planned by the Alumni Association throughout the year.
- A career luncheon is hosted by alumni for students at the school. Discussion centers around career fields, resume writing, interview techniques, etc. Six other student events are held throughout the year featuring topics such as licensing, student recruitment, etc.
- "Grad Packs" are distributed at Commencement to all graduates. An outstanding BSW and MSW student is honored. In addition, the Barbara Schlamp Memorial Award recognizes an outstanding student who is either disabled of works with the disabled.
- Two publications per year are mailed to alumni.
- In 2001, an annual mental health continuing education conference was established for alumni. This conference, with an average attendance of 220 alumni, offers continuing education credit for alumni and friends of the University.
