DOWNTOWN INDIANAPOLIS

If you are interested in going to Circle Centre Mall, Eiteljorg Museum, Indiana State Museum, NCAA Hall of Champions, Indiana Historical Society, the National Institute for Fitness or Health, the Tennis Center, or the Indianapolis Zoo, please come to the registration desk. Indy Go will be operating its Red Line bus route with service from IUPUI to downtown Indianapolis. The IndyGo Red Line circulator is a free bus service providing round trip service every 15 minutes from downtown to University Place Hotel.

9:30am and 10:30am Indiana Medical History Museum Tour
Old Pathology Building
Tours leave from University Place Hotel Lobby at 9:30 and 10:30 am

The Medical History Museum is located in the Old Pathology Building on the grounds of the former Central State Hospital on the city’s near west side. Peruse their collection of authentic medical artifacts from the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, displayed in a completely authentic setting.

Through exciting videos and photos, Dr. Olinger will share his medical team’s research and applications to make the sport as safe as possible.

All tours depart from University Place Hotel Lobby

Choose one tour from the following.

Option A: Tour begins by riding the People Mover, which connects the IU Medical Campus to Methodist Hospital. A walking tour of the Downtown Canal will follow. Expanded in 1996, the Canal now connects Downtown visitors from the White River to the heart of White River State Park, home to the NCAA headquarters and several cultural museums.

Option B: Tour begins with an in-depth look at the new IU Melvin & Bren Simon Cancer Center, scheduled to open in the fall of 2008. We will continue this walking tour with an outdoor look at the campus’ health science buildings, including the latest construction additions to Riley Hospital and the IU medical campus.

Option C: Tour begins by riding the People Mover (mentioned above) to Fairbanks Hall, home of the new 30,000 square foot high-fidelity medical simulation center set to open in the fall 2008. We will then move to a riding bus tour of Downtown Indianapolis and IUPUI. Enjoy exciting, up-close views of Lucas Oil Stadium, the Massachusetts Avenue Arts District, and the newly constructed Downtown Library without worrying about parking or traffic!

Topics covered in this program include: Wills and Trusts; Powers of Attorneys; living wills; and a brief overview of the tax system as it applies to wealth transfers.

Learn about the latest in electronic medical research materials available to students, faculty, and alumni at the IU School of Medicine. Meet and hear from the Medical Library’s director and associate dean and medical librarians at the School. A Medical Librarian is a good friend to have!

Option C: School of Medicine: the early years

Presented in conjunction with the Indiana Medical History Museum

The period before the end of World War I was one of crisis after crisis. The School cruised through some and staggered through others. It was during this time that the basis of a modern School was formed, and James O. Ritchey and others were shaped as physicians.
