Top 100

Recognizing student excellence

Each year, the IUPUI Office of Alumni Relations honors 100 outstanding undergraduate students who demonstrate excellence in three categories—academic excellence, campus leadership, and community engagement. These “top 100” Jags represent everything that makes IUPUI exceptional.

2020 IUPUI Top 100 Outstanding Students Recognition Dinner

Our highest priority is the health and safety of our IUPUI students, alumni, faculty, staff and volunteers. With this in mind, we've decided to cancel the IUPUI Top 100 Outstanding Students Recognition Dinner on April 3, 2020. The risk posed by the coronavirus that causes COVID-19 is just too great.

If you have already registered for the event, we are issuing you a full refund and we will send you details of that in an email message.

If you have any questions or concerns, contact Jacquelyn Beane at or 812-855-7352. You may also visit for more information about what our university is doing to protect the IUPUI community.

We apologize for any inconvenience this cancellation may cause.

Who is eligible?

Currently enrolled juniors and seniors who are in good standing with the university and are seeking their first bachelor’s degree from the IUPUI campus are eligible for the Top 100 award.

  • A minimum cumulative GPA of 3.2
  • Completed 56 credit hours applicable to his/her degree program. Twenty-five or more of those hours must have been completed at the Indianapolis campus as of the fall semester of the year prior to the following year’s award (e.g., students must complete 25 or more hours at IUPUI as of fall 2019 in order to be eligible for the 2020 Top 100 award).

The way to foster great leaders is to let them know that the hard work that they put into the programs that they are passionate about has been recognized and appreciated. Top 100 does exactly that.

The nomination process

It’s easy to nominate a student for the Top 100, but please keep the following in mind:

  • All you need to begin the online nomination process is the student’s user ID (the first part of their IUPUI email address).
  • As a student, you may nominate yourself for the Top 100 award. (You are the only person who will see who nominated you.)
  • A student may only be nominated once.
  • The student fills out the application regardless of who nominates him/her.
  • Because the application is complex, nominators should give students at least one week to complete the application.
  • Students receive an email letting them know they’ve been nominated. They need to accept the nomination and fill out the nomination form, which includes seeking one letter of recommendation on their own.
  • Both letters of recommendation and a completed application must be received by the application deadline.

Application tips

The following tips may be helpful as you’re filling out your application:

  • If the information you include on the application cannot be verified, it will not be awarded any points (including contact information for your activities). Applications can be disqualified if activities listed are not verifiable.
  • Please follow the application instructions carefully.
  • You may not list yourself as the person to contact to verify activities.
  • Provide accurate information. If you list a contact person on your application and the email is not valid, we will not attempt to contact someone to verify it and the activity will not be considered as we score your application.

How does the judging process work?

Each complete application is reviewed by at least three judges, and points are awarded to nominees on the basis of their experience and/or performance in three categories:

  1. Academic excellence
  2. Campus leadership
  3. Community engagement

Selections for the Top 100 are final and there is no appeal process. However, if you believe there was an error regarding your eligibility for the award, you may email us at

If you were not selected for the Top 100 but would like feedback on your application, you may submit your questions through the IUPUI Top 100 Inquiry form and receive a response within two business days.
