Top 100

Recognizing student excellence

Each year, the IUPUI Office of Alumni Relations honors 100 outstanding undergraduate students who demonstrate excellence in three categories—academic excellence, campus leadership, and community engagement. These “top 100” Jags represent everything that makes IUPUI exceptional.

Who is eligible?

Currently enrolled juniors and seniors who are in good standing with the university and are seeking their first bachelor’s degree from the IUPUI campus are eligible for the Top 100 award.

Requirements

  • A minimum cumulative GPA of 3.2
  • Completed 56 credit hours applicable to his/her degree program. Twenty-five or more of those hours must have been completed at the Indianapolis campus as of the fall semester of the year prior to the following year’s award (e.g., students must complete 25 or more hours at IUPUI as of fall 2022 in order to be eligible for the 2023 Top 100 award).

Important dates

  • October 3, 2022 – Nominations open
  • December 16, 2022 – Nominations close
  • January 11, 2023 – Application due
  • January 11, 2023 – Letters of recommendation due
  • Early March 2023 – Announcement of Top 100 students
  • April 14, 2023 – Top 100 Outstanding Students Recognition Dinner

The way to foster great leaders is to let them know that the hard work that they put into the programs that they are passionate about has been recognized and appreciated. Top 100 does exactly that.

The nomination process

It’s easy to nominate a student for the Top 100, but please keep the following in mind:

  • All you need to begin the online nomination process is the student’s user ID (the first part of their IUPUI email address).
  • As a student, you may nominate yourself for the Top 100 award. (You are the only person who will see who nominated you.)
  • A student may only be nominated once.
  • The student fills out the application regardless of who nominates him/her.
  • Because the application is complex, nominators should give students at least one week to complete the application.
  • Students receive an email letting them know they’ve been nominated. They need to accept the nomination and fill out the nomination form, which includes seeking one letter of recommendation on their own.
  • Both letters of recommendation and a completed application must be received by the application deadline.

Application tips

The following tips may be helpful as you’re filling out your application:

  • Applications can be disqualified if activities listed are not verifiable.
  • Please follow the application instructions carefully.
  • You may not list yourself as the person to contact to verify activities.

How does the judging process work?

Each complete application is reviewed by at least three judges, and points are awarded to nominees on the basis of their experience and/or performance in three categories:

  1. Academic excellence
  2. Campus leadership
  3. Community engagement

Selections for the Top 100 are final and there is no appeal process. However, if you believe there was an error regarding your eligibility for the award, you may email us at top100@iupui.edu.
